Cinema spots

Students of the German Academy of Film & Television (dffb) in Berlin bring MANEO to the cinemas

Since 2007 the two social-spots are shown successfully in independent movie theatres across Germany and at international film festivals. This was made possible by the German Academy of Film & Television (dffb) in Berlin and the Miami Ad School, whose students have been approaching the topics homophobia and hateful violence since 2006 in the frame of a seminar on advertising and commercials.

Jana Wolf, dffb- Festival Coordinator, praised the “fruitful cooperation“ with MANEO. “We shot the different kissing-scenes on a bowling alley and in a house entrance, everything went very well and we were all totally concentrated on our scripts. The fact that we were accomplishing important work on a sensitive topic was sometimes almost disregarded because of the routine work”, say director Mariejosephine Schneider (“Love Hurts“) and producer of the spot, Anna de Paoli.

“When we were massively insulted by a few young men on Kurfuerstendamm wanting to disturb the shooting of the final kissing-scene between two men, we suddenly realized: these scenes belong to everyday life! Therefore the slogan: Protect Every Kiss.“

“Looking away unfortunately is a common phenomenon”, says Christoph Heller, director and producer of “Surveillance Camera”. “It is quite often the case that witnesses do not intervene, not even call for help. This story I wanted to tell in my spot.” The spot shows a parking lot at night from the perspective of a surveillance camera recording an antigay attack – and immediately turns away from the scene.

These make the 60- and 45 seconds spots, which were appreciated as “outstanding” by the international Festival Jury of the Queer Film Award 2007, available to interested movie theatres. Both spots are also available on a DVD for educational purposes on request at MANEO.
